10 Secret Makeup Tricks You Need to Know!

Are you new to makeup?

Are you a veteran?

Either way, you may learn something new here or reinforce what you already know.

These are some of my favorite techniques in make-up that sometimes go unnoticed. They have become so ingrained in my daily routine that I pay no mind to them anymore.

I’m happy to take you through these techniques that just may make a difference in your look. Let’s break it down.

  1. Color Correction

When it comes to neutralizing unwanted skin discolorations, it’s all about understanding color theory. Green color correctors are an essential tool for combating redness. Imagine the satisfaction of toning down that pesky pimple or diffusing the flush of rosacea with just a dab of green.

Now, what’s the secret weapon for those dark circles? It’s not the extra cup of coffee; it’s a peach or salmon-toned corrector. These shades are perfect for brightening up the under-eye area and prepping it for your concealer.

  1. Foundation

Layering foundation over color-corrected skin is like the final act in a play where everything comes together harmoniously. You’ll notice less foundation is needed and your complexion looks more natural and even.

  1. Fingertips

When you want to achieve a natural, skin-like finish, fingers can be your best tool. There’s a real technique to using your fingers to apply makeup, and it’s backed by some neat science.

The warmth of your fingertips can make blending products far more efficient since the heat helps to soften the makeup, letting it meld into your skin for that coveted second-skin look.

Fingers are little blenders; they are incredibly good at pressing foundation into the skin and making sure it’s evenly distributed.

Here’s a pro tip for you: use your ring finger to gently tap the product onto your skin. The ring finger is typically weaker than the other fingers, which means it naturally applies less pressure and won’t tug at your delicate skin. This is especially good for areas like under your eyes, where the skin is more fragile.

  1. Reverse Mascara

Let’s turn things up a notch with some final touches. Mascara is not just for the curvy full look of lashes.

Flipping the script and firstly applying mascara on the top of your lashes help to remove any eyeshadow fall out and provides a more youthful look.

  1. Highlighter

Pop a little highlighter in the inner corners of your eyes, and it’s like you’ve had a full eight hours of sleep. This trick is a surefire way to look more awake and keep all eyes on you—literally. It’s such a simple step, but the difference is night and day.

  1. Blush

Now, onto blush placement. Place higher on the cheekbones for a lifted, youthful vibe, or maybe a different spot to suit your unique face. Play around with it until you hit the sweet spot.

  1. Powder Out of Order

Powder before foundation? Sounds backward, but this insider tactic is genius for oily skin. It’s like a barrier that keeps the shine at bay while making your makeup stick around longer.

  1. Lipliner

A softly blended lip line means no harsh edges—just smooth, lips that look fuller and stay vibrant longer. It’s the kind that whispers ‘effortlessly chic’ rather than shouting ‘overdone’.

  1. Concealing

Spot concealing is precision at its finest. Think of it as your targeted approach to coverage—just where you need it, without a heavy, mask-like effect. Make your skin look naturally flawless, not hidden.

10. Setting Spray

A mist of setting spray before mascara can work wonders. That light dampening is a game-changer for clump-free lashes that last. And, it avoids unwanted mascara mess.

Try them, tweak them, and make them your own. Most importantly, have fun with it.
